Jean-Marie Duthilleul has been the head architect of the French National Railroads (SNCF) since 1986. His firms, the Agence des Gares, created in 1988, and AREP, created in 1997,are subsidiariesof the SNCF. Branching out well beyond the construction and renovation of French railway stations, the firms have built in several other countries, including China (Xizhimen Station, Beijing, 2000-5; Shanghai South Station, Shanghai) and the new station in Turin. Duthilleul has been instrumental in redefining the appearance of French railway stations and has had a broad influence in returning them to some degree of civility and brightness. He has renovated facilities such as the Lille-Europe TGV Station and the Roissy TGV Station. Since 2000, he has worked extensively in China on the Beijing Capital Museum and the Lihuan Plaza shopping centre, also in Beijing. Recent projects in Paris include the Saint-Francis Molitor Church.
