Tim is facing a dilemma. The crew of the Claribel has partaken of bad pie and fainted dead away, leaving the second mate in charge. He orders Tim to steer east, but Tim knows this will lead the ship onto deadly rocks. The bullying, brutish second mate refuses to listen to Tim’s pleas.
