Unlike many young people who grew up on the hard streets of Compton, California, Andre Young was drawn to music, not gang life. As a teenager, his services as a DJ were much in demand. After taking the name Dr. Dre, he joined the rap group N.W.A., which made hip-hop history when it released the controversial album "Straight Outta Compton" in 1989.After leaving N.W.A., Dre built a career as a solo artist by releasing such top-selling albums as "The Chronic" and "Dr. Dre 2001". But Dre's true passion was producing quality hip-hop albums for others. With a keen eye for talent and an ear for cutting-edge sounds, Dre is responsible for molding the careers of such top rap stars as Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and The Game.
