“A must-read book for every Physics lover and for everyone who cares for the Science of Physics. The book is for the average intelligent reader and doesn’t contain even slightly any sort of mathematics.
This book’s main purpose, as evident from its title, is to depict what has been going wrong with the current theoretical physics. For accomplishing it, the author starts with the 5 major unsolved problems of the current theoretical physics. He does it while giving very good articulate macro-views of the major disciplines relating to these problems.
Then he proceeds to what was supposed to be the grand solution for these problems, which is the renowned String Theory. The authors dwells lengthily on this theory, from its early development gaining minor attention, through its glorified peaks of hopes, expectations and even bragging (by the physicists working on the String Theory), towards its current reaching to dubiously absurd theoretical results.
The author is also praiseworthy for his final prediction (at the end of the book) that the theory wouldn’t fulfill its initial promise, as the book was published before the first run ever in 2007 (and the runs coming afterwards with much higher energies) of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) that have tumbled down the SuperSymmetry which is one of theory’s most essential pillars.
Then the author proceeds into suggesting possible promising & practical alternatives from other disciplines of the theoretical physics, which were neglected by the leading mainstream institutions in the US, by their collective rush for the promised results anticipated from the String Theory. This section of alternative & practical suggestions is highly appealing for any Physics lover.
Then the authors gives firsthand illustration of the various academic politics which is playing its damaging role in prioritizing the String theory and its scientists, upon scientists working in many other promising fields, and how this politics is impeding the scientific progress of the entire theoretical physics which has been stuck in the last 30 (now 40) years.”
