The book is one of the few authoritative works by an Indian author about the practical analysis of the planning, preparation and principles of low intensity operations for junior leaders. The book deals in detail with the problems faced by a young officer on the verge of induction into an inhospitable area. The methodology to overcome this is dealt with and suitably supported by anecdotes and case studies. The author's varied experience in insurgency gives a balance to the study and thus broadens its scope. The book does not deal with the root cause of LICs as adequate materials are available on this aspect. The aim, however, is to benefit junior leaders who are new to this form of warfare through practical solutions to real time problems.
This has also successfully initiated a study into the vital aspect of the principles of LIC which have got the importance they deserve. This hopefully will help give LICs a degree of formality and perhaps the rightful place as one of the operations of war....
