Chayim Israel Perl was born in 1925 in the little town of Visho and at the age of four moved to the village of Schiff in Maramures County in Romania. In early May 1944 he was expelled with the rest of the Dargomirest ghetto to Auschwitz, and after the selection he was transferred from Auschwitz to Buchenwald, Dora-Mittelbau, and was finally liberated from Bergen Belsen in Apriil 1945.
