The focus of this book is on the tensions and difficulties of European legal integration. Four paradoxes of contemporary integration are presented with the purpose of offering a framework for understanding some of the major interconnected processes. Dilemmas in the processes of constitutionalization and democratization are examined, as well as the link between the progress of the EU and the expansion of the EU inner market. The role of language and communication in the legislation of different states and the contradictory co-existence of homogeneity and diversity in the European political and legal processes are also considered.This book will be of interest to those concerned with the place of legal language, processes and culture in the continuous advancement of the EU project.
