HOME IS NO MORE is the story of two small Jewish communities in Eastern Galicia. Located near Kuty, the home town of Rabbi Abrham Gershon Kitover, brother - in - law of the Baal Shem Tov, the story of the Jewish inhabitants in this area is told in great detail by two eyewitnesses. Jehoschua Gertner was leading figure in the Jewish community of Kosow and a fervent Zionist. His testimony, among the first reported on the Holocaust, is especially important in view of the role he played as a member of the local Judenrat. Jehoschus nephew, Danek Gertner of Zabie, was the offspring of an affluent and well - educated family; his parents home became a regular meeting place for Jewish intellectuals and Zionists. Daneks testimony is of special interest. Rather then trying to offer explanations, it describes the events as Danek saw them unfold - as members of his family and community were being murdered in succession. Danek survived by dint of his audacity and resourcefulness. After the war he became a successful businessman but has also been active in the affairs of the State of Israel and in Holocaust remembrance activities.
